The Bamboo Shark, also known as the Cat Shark due to the barbels around its mouth resembling cat whiskers, is also called the Whitespotted Bamboo Shark. This species features a brown body adorned with broad tan stripes and spots.

As a bottom-dwelling shark, the Bamboo Shark is a popular choice for home aquariums. It preys on any crustaceans in its habitat. Though it remains relatively small, it requires a minimum tank size of 300 gallons when fully grown. A sandy substrate is essential, as coarser materials can scratch its abdomen and potentially lead to infections. Additionally, it should never be exposed to copper-based medications.

When first added to an aquarium, the Bamboo Shark should be offered small pieces of cleaned squid or live saltwater feeder shrimp to encourage feeding. Once acclimated, it can be fed shrimp, scallops, or fresh marine fish. Ideal foods include whole cockles in their shells, fresh shrimp, squid, and frozen mussels.

2 feet long. one of the nicest sharks i own, it regularly eats out of my hand and currently lives in a tank with tangs, clownfish, and coral.
