Clown Fish

The Captive-Bred Percula Clownfish, also known as the True Percula or Clown Anemonefish, is native to the reefs of Oceania, the Indo-Pacific, and the Great Barrier Reef. While they can be found individually, they are often seen in pairs or small groups within the same anemone. Young Percula Clownfish are typically orange and white, but as they mature, the black areas between their white stripes darken.

Often confused with the Ocellaris Clownfish, the Percula Clownfish is more vividly orange, whereas the Ocellaris tends to be more subdued in color. Additionally, the Percula features thicker black outlines around its white stripes. These striking colors and their friendly personalities make the Percula Clownfish a popular choice for reef aquariums.

Captive-Bred Percula Clownfish offer several advantages over their wild-caught counterparts. They are more resilient and better adapted to the conditions of home aquariums, making them ideal for both novice and experienced aquarists.

Breeding these clownfish in a home aquarium is relatively straightforward. The female, being the larger of the pair, will lay eggs on a flat surface, and both fish will guard them from other tank mates. The eggs typically hatch within 6-11 days, depending on the temperature. The fry should be raised in a separate tank and fed a diet of rotifers followed by baby brine shrimp.

In their natural habitat, Percula Clownfish are omnivores. In an aquarium setting, they will eagerly accept a variety of meaty foods as well as herbivore preparations.
