Lion Fish Large

The Volitan Lionfish, scientifically known as *Pterois volitans*, is also referred to as the Lionfish, Red Firefish, Turkeyfish, and Butterfly Cod. This striking species is notable for its vibrant red, burgundy, and white vertical stripes, and its impressive, expansive pectoral fins. As one of the larger Lionfish species, it makes a stunning centerpiece in a reef aquarium.

The Volitan Lionfish tends to hide in caves during the day but becomes more active at dusk and dawn, often showcasing its striking appearance. It thrives in tanks with ample live rock for hiding and open areas for swimming. When considering keeping multiple Lionfish, it's important to use a larger tank and introduce similarly sized fish simultaneously to minimize aggression.

This species is venomous, with its pectoral spines delivering a sting similar to a bee bite, but potentially more severe if you are allergic. Exercise caution when handling the Lionfish. Its diet should consist of a variety of meaty saltwater foods, including krill, shrimp, silver sides, and squid, fed 1-2 times per day.
